Color Theory

Saturation

The intensity or purity of a color, ranging from fully desaturated (gray) to fully saturated (vivid).

Saturation controls how vivid or muted colors appear in an image. At zero saturation, the image becomes monochrome grayscale. At full saturation, colors reach their maximum intensity. Photographers adjust saturation to match mood and style — high saturation for vibrant product photography, reduced saturation for moody portraits. Over-saturation causes skin tones to look unnatural and can clip color channels, losing detail. The HSL model separates saturation from hue and lightness, allowing independent control. Magic Eraser's enhancement tools intelligently adjust saturation per-region, boosting muted areas without over-saturating already vivid elements.
