Feathering
A soft transition applied to the edge of a selection or mask, creating a gradual blend between selected and unselected areas.
Feathering prevents hard, obvious edges when editing or compositing image elements. A feathered selection gradually fades from fully selected to unselected over a specified pixel distance. This creates natural-looking transitions, especially important when removing objects or replacing backgrounds.
