How to remove power lines from a photo

Power lines, telephone wires, and cables cut across otherwise beautiful landscapes, real estate exteriors, and architectural photos. Magic Eraser's AI traces and removes these lines, reconstructing the clean sky or scenery behind them.

Why power lines are common in outdoor photography — Magic Eraser

Power lines are virtually impossible to avoid in urban and suburban photography. They cross skylines in real estate exterior shots, cut through landscape vistas, appear behind architectural subjects, and show up in drone footage. Their thin profile makes them easy to overlook during shooting but immediately visible in the final image. Manual removal in Photoshop requires tracing each line with the clone stamp tool — tedious work that takes 5-15 minutes depending on how many lines cross the frame and whether they pass over complex backgrounds like trees and buildings. Magic Eraser's AI handles the full process: detecting the thin line geometry, removing each wire, and reconstructing the sky or background behind it.

  1. 1

    Upload the photo

Open Magic Eraser on web, iOS, or Android. Upload the landscape, real estate exterior, architectural photo, or any image with unwanted power lines or cables. JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and WebP supported.

  2. 2

    Brush over each power line

Trace each wire with the brush tool. Use a brush size slightly wider than the wire to ensure full coverage. Brush the full length of each visible line from edge to edge of the frame. For multiple parallel wires, brush each one separately or use a wider brush to cover a cluster.

  3. 3

    Tap Erase and review

The AI removes the power lines and fills with the sky, trees, or background that should be there. Check the full length of each removed line for any residual thin artifacts. Where lines crossed complex backgrounds (trees, buildings), verify the reconstruction looks natural. Refine with a second pass if needed. Export at full resolution.

Power lines against clear or evenly clouded sky are the easiest case — the AI fills with matching sky seamlessly. Lines crossing complex backgrounds (trees with detailed foliage, patterned building facades) require more careful reconstruction and may benefit from a second pass. For photos with many parallel wires, work from top to bottom, removing one line at a time and verifying each before moving to the next. Utility poles are separate objects — if you want to remove poles as well as wires, brush the pole after the wires for a cleaner overall result. For real estate photos, removing power lines is one of the highest-impact edits: it's consistently cited by real estate agents as the most requested photo correction.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले सवाल

Can it handle multiple parallel wires?
Yes. Brush each wire individually for the cleanest results, or use a wider brush to cover a cluster of closely spaced wires in one pass. The AI handles both approaches.
What about where wires cross trees or buildings?
The AI reconstructs the tree foliage or building detail behind the removed wire. For complex intersections, the result is usually very good but may benefit from a second pass at full zoom to catch fine details.
Should I remove the utility poles too?
That depends on the photo. Removing just the wires improves the sky dramatically. Removing the poles as well creates a cleaner scene but leaves more area for the AI to fill. For real estate and landscape, removing both wires and poles produces the best result.
Is power line removal free?
Yes. Magic Eraser's free tier includes the brush tool for power line removal with daily usage limits. Premium removes limits for batch real estate processing.
