Does this remove EXIF metadata?

Yes. Exporting through canvas creates a new image with the corrected pixels and without the original metadata block.

What does EXIF orientation value 6 or 8 mean?

Value 6 means the camera asked viewers to rotate the photo 90° clockwise. Value 8 means 90° counterclockwise. This fixer shows the detected value before export and bakes that transform into the pixels.
