Common questions

Do all photos contain EXIF data?

+

Most photos taken with digital cameras and smartphones include EXIF data. However, some social media platforms and messaging apps strip metadata on upload. Screenshots and computer-generated images typically do not contain camera EXIF data.

Can I see what edits were made to a photo?

+

The XMP and EXIF Software tag can reveal which application last saved the file, such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. Some editing software writes additional history metadata, but this depends on the application and its settings.

Is it safe to share photos with EXIF data?

+

EXIF data can include your GPS location, device serial number, and other personal information. If privacy is a concern, strip the metadata before sharing. Our Image Metadata Remover tool can do that in one click.
