HEIC
High Efficiency Image Container — Apple's default photo format that provides approximately 50% smaller files than JPEG at comparable quality.
HEIC uses the HEVC (H.265) video codec for still image compression, achieving dramatically better quality-to-size ratios than JPEG. iPhones and iPads capture photos in HEIC format by default since iOS 11. The format supports 10-bit color depth, transparency, image sequences, and depth maps from portrait mode. While offering superior compression, HEIC has limited compatibility outside the Apple ecosystem — Windows requires an extension, and many web platforms and printers still expect JPEG or PNG. Users frequently need to convert HEIC to JPEG for sharing and uploading. Magic Eraser's HEIC to JPG converter tool handles this conversion while preserving maximum quality during the format translation process.
