Content Authenticity
Cryptographic provenance systems like C2PA that track the origin and editing history of digital images to combat misinformation.
Content authenticity standards address the growing challenge of distinguishing real photos from AI-generated or manipulated images. The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standard embeds cryptographically signed metadata recording when, where, and how an image was created, and what edits were applied. Camera manufacturers are implementing C2PA at the hardware level so images carry verified provenance from the moment of capture. Adobe's Content Credentials system implements C2PA in creative tools, creating an audit trail visible to viewers. These systems help journalists verify source material, help social platforms flag manipulated content, and help creators prove the authenticity of their original work in an era of convincing AI generation.
